Tournament Eligibility Policy for Inactive Members

To ensure competitive balance and fairness in all tournament events, the Megabucks Amateur Pool League has established the following policy regarding former members who have been inactive for an extended period:

Eligibility for Tournament Participation After Inactivity

1. Any member who has an established handicap but has not participated in an MAPL sanctioned league session for one year or more must compete at one skill level higher than their last recorded handicap if they wish to participate in any league-sanctioned tournament event.
2. This policy applies to all formats and divisions within the league to maintain consistency in competition.

Reasoning Behind the Policy

• Skill Retention & Competitive Integrity – While former members may not have actively participated in league sessions, they may have continued playing in non-league environments, potentially improving their skill level. Requiring them to play at one skill level higher prevents an unfair advantage against regularly competing players.
• Standardization & Fair Play – Active members have their handicaps adjusted based on recent match performance. In contrast, inactive members’ skill levels remain unchanged for extended periods. Increasing the skill level of returning players accounts for potential discrepancies in ability.
• Encouraging Consistent League Participation – This rule incentivizes players to remain active in league sessions to maintain an accurate handicap, ensuring they compete at a level that reflects their true ability.

Exceptions & Adjustments

• If a returning member participates in league matches after their absence and records a minimum of three new match scores, their skill level will be re-evaluated based on performance rather than the automatic one-level increase.
• League officials reserve the right to review and make final determinations on player skill levels based on additional supporting factors, such as prior match history and overall league data.
